For many, the consideration of Hypnotherapy often may fall at the first hurdle as it is considered expensive. A while ago, my then Hypnotherapy trainer, reminded me of the cliché “you get what you pay for in life Marina”. Of course, you will pay different rates for Hypnotherapy around the country.

What is important is that you have got to really want to change. Motivation is essential to achieving the desired outcome. As a small measure, if you are prepared to pick up the phone, to talk about the issue you want to change, that is a very good start, and I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

The following is taken and adapted from an article written by Marian Barry from the Hypnotherapy Directory organisation in June 2015: it summaries aspects of Hypnosis, and explains the kind of in-depth work involved and just how skilful the Hypnotherapist has to be in order to communicate with a patient’s unconscious mind:

“First of all, unlike other therapies that are largely based on listening to the client, making the occasional observation or asking questions at the conscious level, Hypnotherapists evaluate each patient’s main way of communicating through observation, calibration and listening intently. This begins the moment the patient walks into the room. We then take the patient into a deeply relaxing altered state of awareness called a ‘trance’, in order to begin to communicate with the patient’s unconscious mind. Trance is the doorway into the unconscious. Then, the offering of powerful, subliminal guidance through suggestion is undertaken. What sets us apart from other therapies is that with our skills in Hypnotherapy we go straight to the heart of the problem, work to correct it and then move the patient forward in order to have better quality of life. We design bespoke trance work for our patients so that under hypnosis, the unconscious mind begins to see the goal clearly and to believe in it. The unconscious will then search for ways to knock obstacles out of the way in order to reach the goal. This is a unique path for each client. This is why I love my work, because it is a very gentle yet powerful process, and when you start seeing the results it is so inspiring.

This kind of work requires considerable preparation and immense concentration by the Hypnotherapist who will do 90% of the talking in the session. The demands on the Hypnotherapist are naturally much higher than in other therapies.

The first consultation is about building rapport, developing trust and alleviating any natural apprehension. It is also about coming to a mutual understanding to define an achievable goal as well. Typical goals include becoming free of anxiety and phobias, being more confident, embracing developmental stages, giving up addictions, passing exams, interviews, losing weight, and eating disorders. Some people want it for coping with pain and for medical and dental procedures. Even Hypno-birthing has become more readily sourced as an alternative to conventional childbirth pain relief.

You may also find unlike other therapies, Hypnotherapists engage patients in terms of the kind of lives they want to have and want to create for themselves. At first some patients can struggle with this, given that essentially they only know to focus on what is familiar, because that is their current reality. Dealing with and moving a patient beyond what is ‘familiar’ is truly a remarkable. People like the idea of change, but when it really comes to it, they don’t like to move out of their ‘comfort zone’. This is where the difference between other therapies and Hypnotherapy is accentuated.

So, as Hypnotherapists we help patients not only resolve their issues; we engage them in new and alternative resourceful behaviours for a more purposeful future. All of this of course, is at the guidance of the Hypnotherapist, and so yes, Hypnotherapy does cost more; and the results are more than worth it. They can come surprisingly quickly, I promise.”
