Quit Smoking
So, you want really to give up smoking…
Chances are you’ve tried other ways of giving up smoking only to head to the nearest place to buy cigarettes because the withdrawal symptoms have got the better of you. It is not an easy thing to attempt to do on your own, that’s for sure as there are a number of influencing factors going on…
There are many ways people take up smoking. It tends to start at a young age. Peer pressure at school; getting in with the wrong crowd. As children we learn simply by copying and do the same and the people we most copy are our own parents. It’s a natural part of how we grow up. If your parents are/were smokers, their influence could have significantly impacted upon you as a child…
As I said, maybe you’ve tried other ways of giving up. Going cold turkey or weaning yourself off with patches, chewing gum or vaping (e-cigarettes) all of them failing you. Perhaps you are under care of a hospital like Royal Bournemouth Hospital; Poole General or Dorset County Hospital. If you’ve been an impatient then reality is really staring right at you. Smoking is the biggest cause of preventable deaths in England, accounting for nearly 80,000 deaths each year. One in two smokers will die from a smoking-related disease.
Smoking causes fatal diseases such as pneumonia, emphysema and lung cancer. Smoking causes 84% of deaths from lung cancer and 83% of deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
However, above all else, the first aspect in your transition into freedom is your mindset or your attitude towards actually giving up. If you feel a desperation to quit, that’s fantastic. I am totally serious – and getting real with you. Your desire to end your addiction to smoking/nicotine it has to be immense. You’ve had enough. You’re done with smoking completely and utterly. You can’t abide or bear it anymore.
If you don’t feel like this, then you are not ready to stop, despite the consequences.
So why can’t we just stop then?
The reason is interesting., willpower is a conscious mind determination. A decision made, with good intentions and high hopes, but if you don’t deal with the part of the mind that holds all the cards – the unconscious mind – you are quite simply not addressing the problem at the source. When people use willpower alone they are less likely to succeed. However, with clinical hypnotherapy, aligned the right attitude and mental determination, you will be amazed!
Your lungs can be very badly damaged by smoking. Look what’s going on inside:
What can I expect after I’ve quit smoking in term of changes to my immediate health?
Well, generally the following happens:
- After 8 hours your blood oxygen levels will stabilise.
- After 24 hours carbon monoxide will be clear from the body.
- After 48 hours your sense of taste and smell will begin to change and improve for the better.
- Carrying on through to 72 hours your breathing will become easier and your energy levels will begin to increase.
By eradicating your smoking addition now, you remove the risk of teaching your children to become smokers.
I have noticed with my patients that they come along for one issue and low and behold they change or remove lots of other issues too.. When you clear your system from smoking, your mind will be clear, receptive and cleansed; ready and able to provide you with greater direction and motivation in terms of what you want out of life. Many people say: “Why didn’t I do this earlier?”!
